Stavern

Stavern was the smallest town in Norway until 1988. This idyllic summer resort, known locally as Larvik’s dimple, has probably been a harbour and anchorage since ancient times. Today, Stavern boasts a prolific local art industry and many historical attractions such as Fredriksvern festning (fortress), Minnehallen (national monument to commemorate mariners who perished during the First World War), Citadellet (fortification from 1700s), Stavern Church and the poet Herman Wildenvey’s home, Hergisheim.
